Green Trash Bags: An Oxymoron or a Phenomenon?
If you ask Perf Go Green, they will tell you they are the latter and have proof of such, that their trash bags will biodegrade within 12-24 months, unlike all of the trash bags we are sending off to our landfills as we speak everyday of our lives.
Their plans are to use this same technology eventually for diapers. If indeed this is the answer we have been looking for, then don’t wait for distribution, license it to Huggies or Luvs, in the case of diapers. In April there is a conference taking place that will be establishing the metrics for what can or will be certified as legitimately green, and with Perf Go Green’s claims, it will surely be looked at very closely. Their claims are that these are the very first mass-market 100% biodegradable trash bags on the planet. They claim that the strength of the bags are similar to Hefty’s. Price-wise, though they like to say per bag the difference is in pennies, they are somewhere between 20%-50% higher per box, depending upon the size of the bag and which brand you are comparing them to. Plus at this stage it is meaningless to discuss price with no distribution in the market at all. Perf Go Green was just introduced at the Housewares Show last week in Chicago on the 17th of March.
My thoughts are that with critical mass in distribution achieved, there would be economies of scale and that the price difference wouldn’t be there long….that is the hope a number of manufacturers have regarding their eco products, that eventually there will be so much demand for their product/technology that the price will eventually come down. Sounds right, and given the climate (pun intended) it looks like the demand will indeed be there.

My thoughts are that I hope for them and our planet and therefore us, that indeed this is the real thing. To obtain more specific information about the science behind Perf Go Green, visit their website and plan to see them in a store near you by this summer (I have a request in for Perf Go Green to let me know where we can find them as soon as they know).
For anyone who starts using them and has experience with them, let me know about it. We owe it to our planet to help spread the word. ![]()

very cool! how do you buy them?
Good question, DC. I have a call into them to see if they’ve gotten placement yet. I’ll be sure to post it here when I find out and let you know. I want to know too.
