Animated t-shirt video takes the cake.

Well, Chic Looks and I agree, the “>t-shirt is the best form of expression and here comes one more for the books, an animated t shirt video, D.A.N.C.E. by Justice. This is too fun, and the t shirts themselves are reported to be selling out in a shop in Paris. If anyone has images of them, please send, I’ll post the link and/or the images.

This isn’t Your Mother’s Blog

How else to refer to the online world of blogging which has become a very sophisticated communication tool for not just serious hobbyists but also marketers or information managers or authors and speakers and journalists….to name just a few reasons why blogs exist. When I started posting seriously myself , some six months ago, there was some controversy about the validity of blogs especially from mainstream media execs; but from all the research I’ve done and time spent on others blogs as well as my own, to ignore the online world of blogging is to do so at your own risk. Even, and only just now, Ad Age Daily encouraged all marketing managers to immerse themselves in the online world. I think that’s funny. What they will discover is that it’s a very sophisticated tool that has nearly become mainstream–lots of professionals are way ahead of them… A shout-out to ChrisG.com for his blog, and especially on Flagship Content. And Glenn Wolsey for helping me set this blog up and his about blogging series, and Darren Rowse of ProBlogger who’s the granddaddy of them all I think. I recommend all three for their blogging prowess if you want to know and understand anything about creating a content rich blog (hopefully I am and have learned from them too!). Each of these bloggers also has a readership that is rich in resources so I highly recommend to all that they spend time at each site with regularity if anyone wants to understand the ins and outs of the blogosphere.

Like I said, this isn’t your Mother’s Blog!

Internet Progress Includes Couture Website

lwren-scott-lbd1.jpg Or is that an oxymoron? Couture and its relevance today has been a hot topic over at the NY Times blog, On the Runway. And in a beautiful synchronization of timing, Style Bubble notes a new internet website for couture, Couture Lab. Unfortunately I can’t make too many more comments on it than that because getting into the site is for members only and you have to qualify. One thing they ask you for is the name of your personal assistant in the application process…so they are looking for those who can afford what they will be offering. The debate centers around whether or not this will qualify as progress for couture. At the same time, another hot debate going on in the fashion world is whether or not new talented designers can get themselves started via the web and still maintain their credibility. Maybe Couture Lab is the answer for them.

The designers and artisans involved with Couture Lab are not necessarily the “named” ones such as Karl Lagerfield for Chanel or John Galliano for Dior. The image above references exmodel turned designer L’Wren Scott who has given Couture Lab an exclusive to her “Little Black Dress” collection. Susie Bubble of Style Bubble shows even more images and has a little more to tell about the website. If anyone here knows more about it please let us hear what you know or even think about it.

Sneak Preview of the Design Studio of the Future

office-of-the-future.pngHow Magazine offers us a glimpse into the future of our design spaces–the layouts, how we will work and how we will be interacting with clients, hypothetically that is for the year 2025. Download the article now from their current newsstand August issue, the Future of Design.

Want a hint? Plug n Play not only applies to software, but also to the office of the future with workstations being more common as telecommuters, consultants, and anyone else pops in then leaves and lets the space be available for the next person; the pluses…everything will be adjustable so each individual can work in comfort…the minuses? You’ll just have to have the pix of the fam on your mobile whatevers to show co-workers and colleagues instead of in a frame (which is so yesterday in the year 2025).

I gotta tell you, I’ve been doing that already, sort of, by going into Kinko’s workstations, airport workstations, etc., but I admit, in offices they don’t usually accommodate the on-the-fly worker…so hopefully it’s a little more friendly than the offsite ones…more like Starbucks maybe? Well, at least offer me a Starbucks (that’s my $4.02 worth tip toward the design space of the future).

Not Since Mummenschanz: Room

room.jpg by The Rinpa Eshidan. “Rinpa” is a word created by the founders of the group meaning “to bring people together, while “Eshidan” essentially means “art crew.” They have several videos of them recording the act of creating art, which they consider to be the creation itself and the videos are meant to engage the audience in the process.

To that end, they have succeeded. I heart the Rinpa Eshidan.

Gwen Stefani does more than sing.

lamb-renaissance-watch.jpgI am struck by the uniqueness and quality of Stefani’s jewelry line, L.A.M.B., it’s actually good. So good, I might buy one of her watches (this one in fact) for me. I was beside a woman at the Nordstrom jewelry counter, older, not a tweener nor college aged person but you know, over 35 shall we say, like me, and we both agreed, “This line is good. Go figure.” And check it out (I mean you). This is not an ad for L.A.M.B. but celebrity designers have come under fire of late as being all fluff with no stuff behind their labels but I disagree….on a couple, Gwen Stefani in particular. Very cute, good quality, and a variety of design.

98_gstefani_060901_emiller_56353788.jpgIn fact, Ms. Stefani is now suing Forever 21 for trademark infringement on her designs. She says they copied her, (Nooohwa!). Now copying is a for sure thing in this industry but suing for it is something rarely done. I am curious to see how it turns out. Good luck, Gwen. We love you!

Can’t Get Enough of those T-Shirts…..

henryholland-and-kickers.jpg This T-shirt line is out of London, and brings with it an extra Kick. House of Holland by Henry Holland who collaborates with Kickers according to Susie Bubble of StyleBubble blog is now one of fashion’s darlings and consequently we have yet another fantastic t-shirt style to choose from and these promise to get paired with more accessories so now it’s not just the t-shirt that is so much fun (but still, can’t do one without the other, right?). Read Holland’s biography on his website, House of Holland, and it will all become clear.

You could say what is with me and the t shirt references? Well, you could say that, but I’d say can you get enough of them? Do you have a favorite source yourself? I’ve mentioned t-shirts since the first of June and I’ve run across nothing but t-shirt references and happenings since. So, I’d say t-shirts are such a permanent and fantastic and at times extreme form of expression we could call it The Blank Slate of Canvas for the Masses…..do you have another better handle for it? If you do, we would all like to hear what it is.

Also note the leggings over the knee, tights over the knee, whatever….it’s the new new thing. Stock up if you haven’t already for fall….in all the right colors!

Interactive Branding or “The Internet of All Things”

when-worlds-collide.jpg So suggests ad agency DDB, Cannes 2007, indicating the lines are so blurred between real and digital they’ll soon be indistinguishable…. they show actual examples of such experiences already in existence in Japan and London. At the bottom of all of this interaction? RFID tags and GPS systems.

I love showing this video just after a post on Do It Yourself (Renegrade Craft Fair, below). It just goes to show you that humans and technology have entered into a new phase of their on-going love hate relationship–how working together can create a more harmonious quality of life. DDB says Web 2.0 has opened the door for this brave new world to exist. Thanks PSFK and IF! for the heads up.

Thoughts please!

Renegade Craft Fair Plus More of My Favs: T-Shirts ARAMA

threadbangers.jpgI just found this great video on DIY from Threadbanger covering the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn with some super footage of what makes this fair sooooo cool and how to make a bathing suit from t-shirts.

I confess, I was going to put my own v-tee posting up but I’ve been fully upstaged and you’ve been fully spared cause this is waaaay better than I could have done. The instructions are flat out (not to be too punny) sensational.

What creative crafters can do with t-shirts seems to be endless, and right now every time I turn around, I find something even better than the last (see posting on Sting’s v-tee).

Threadbangers has new episodes covering all kinds of DIY posted every Tuesday. Check it out, you may even want to subscribe.

Hello Kitty Goes Swarovski.

swarovski-hello-kitty-bling-softbank-707sc.jpgIf you were having trouble thinking about what to get your under 5 fashionista, think no more, the solution has arrived, Swavorski style.

So what’s the market….given it is Swarovski Crystal….MaDonna’s kids? Brangelina’s? Well you can be sure that if they were to pick it up, so will the rest of the world. This post came from Kilian Nakamura’s blog which gives you all the lifestyle and fashion trends you need (and obviously more) direct from the streets of Japan.

I especially like how the product grouping comes with its own gift box, ala Tiffany.

Then again, I need a little classy clutch and the silver number looks pretty good. But wait a minute….is this some kind of a Paris Hilton joke? Nope…today Hello Kitty, tomorrow for Swarovski, the world.
